There was a hard working fellow in the neighborhood that helped on the farm, and worked at a plastic factory and helped others too. Several years ago, he was on his way home and got T-boned at an intersection while driving his Grandpa's GMC truck... Saturday, he was on his way home from the farm and got T-boned again at the very same intersection in a small car... and lost his life at 47.  Hit by a gal texting and going through a stop sign at high rate of speed. The three in the car were not hurt seriously, but the passengers said they told her that she should quit texting... and she didn't listen.
TEXTING, that needs to be BANNED. PERIOD.  You have to look at what you see what you typed and then your hands are busy fidgeting with small little buttons instead of having them on the steering wheel.  They are the menace's to the public / society's safety...

That's terrible news, JC. So sorry for the loss of your friend in such a needless crash.
This probably isn't the place to put this thought, but here goes anyway. With all of them Parkland FL students on the fight for gun control, I'd just like to tell them that I'll jump on the band wagon with them as soon as they go on the fight to ban cell phones. I don't know any numbers, but I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that texting and driving kills more people than school shootings do. Darrel

Sorry to hear of such a needless loss. Georgia just went "hands free" on cell phones. No texting and no holding the phone in your hand while driving. I hope they strictly enforce it. And Darrel you are correct - texting and driving kills far more kids than school shootings but the libtards want to take our guns away, they don't care about cell phones.

JC I’m very sorry to hear this. We had a guy on a motorcycle texting and got killed last summer. The good is that he didn’t take anyone with him.
I have people get mad at me at intersections because I won’t cut it close. Perfectly clear or I wait. A coworker once told me “I could of made it” I said how do you know? He said the guy would of slowed down. I explained I don’t trust milenials that much. He would of had to put the phone down and paid attention to slow down. I also pulled over and told him to get in the back.

People have lost all sense and sensibility these days. Most that text and drive or read papers and drive, women that do their make up and drive all will justify it to some level of necessity, to me CANNOT be justified. Watched a cop driving down the highway entering something on his pedestal mounted laptop, was all over the road but they justify that as 'Police Work', will kill him in the end if he keeps that up.

Got a ear bud for my cell phone, can make a voice call, can answer incoming calls just by speaking into the mic which can be handy, can also text to anyone hands free but do not do it as is as distracting to try to read what the infernal machine is typing against what I am saying.

sad, happens way too often.
I'd like to see a 'cell phone jammer' installed in every car so that when the tranny is NOT in park, all cell phones are jammed. This is darn easy tech to do.
worse ones I see, daily, are the mothers driving their kids to school up the road. I'm the 'hidden driveway' on a corner. 99% of them are on their phones, speeding f course.

Did y’all see on the news this mornin where a girl hit the guard rail on an over pass and knocked a 2000 lb chunk of concrete off the bridge and on to a car passing below? I believe I heard she was texting but won’t swear to it.

Jayb,,,,,,,,in this day and age, it should be SO SIMPLE to do this.  WHY don't they put something IN THE PHONES so that if it is going over say 10 mph, it just won't work!!
But yes, it'll take a few years, but autos/trucks/ANY moving vehicle should block phones in the drivers seat.  Heck, most millennials can't listen to the radio and drive...

Prayer for you and the family of your friend JC.

So  many good comments, have the same thoughts a jaybmiller some form of jamming device to keep electronics from working with vehicle moving.

As far as age of the driver...... here most are dangerous fools.

Have T intersection on the fast way to town, most trafic turns as as it leads to a weekend vacation place that has turned into a small town. All in a rush to get somewhere.Just knowing if you slow down your turning. But you sure better be prepared for them to pull out. Have found you make them just as mad by slowing down and giving a friendly wave as if you flipped them off. By some miracle no deaths there yet,but someday as the lime mine is past my place 20 to 50 trucks per day.

Read the responses here, and Darrel, your post was okay, I posted this incidence here for two reason, One was what were the chances of Jimmy getting hit at the same intersection by drivers that did not stop for the stop sign, and the second reason was because I am so dang fed up with those dam texters driving down the road and not paying attention to what is around them, but hell bent to be 'interacting on thet dam phone that way, more important than the lives of others. That is what makes me mad.
It was a tragic loss of life for pure foolishness, and I hope that girl will remember this for the rest of her life.
And I really feel sad and sorry for the family... It was a big family, 8 kids in it, and I knew 5 of them pretty good and Jimmy being one of them, the 3 youngest not very well. And I know some of their cousins real good too...and one of them is a good friend of mine most my life.
Now as for talking on cell phones, I am guilty of having done that, but don't make it a habit nor do I allow it to take my attention from the road either.  But there are those that can't talk and drive at the same time. Followed one fool that was all over the road while the phone was to his ear, just crazy. I wondered if he could even walk and chew bubble gum at the same time.  If you can't focus on the road and drive  and still talk, shut the dang phone OFF.  And there's laws about inattentive /distracted driving already on the books.   Ever see people on phones where they are making hand and arm exaggerations while talking and the party on the other end of the line can't see the speakers 'body language'? Wacko Wonder if thats the same people that can't seem to drive and talk on the phone at the same time...

Sorry to hear he lost his life from such a stupid decision by the other driver. We have intersections around here that are notoriously dangerous for things like that.
Being a college kid, y'all can't imagine how much of that I see on a daily basis when I'm at the school. It's insane. It seems to me it's mainly the sorority girls (you can tell by the Greek letters plastered all over their cars), although many others do it as well. Driving a pickup, I can see over in a lot of the cars they drive, and I'm amazed how they can hold a cell phone with BOTH HANDS and still drive around campus, around town, and even on the interstates. Sometimes they use their knee to steer, but other times there is zero steering wheel contact. Of course, they're swerving all over, but still.

Oklahoma has a rule against using the cell phone and driving, but to my knowledge it's not enforced. Too bad.

How many states have banned cell phone use while driving?
Currently, 47 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands ban text messaging for all drivers. All but 4 have primary enforcement. Of the 3 states without an all driver texting ban, 2 prohibit text messaging by novice drivers.

Distracted Driving Laws - | GHSA

More enforcement is the key. Them officers have to see it as much as us

I was driving in down town Grand Rapids one morning and stopped at a light and just happened to look in my rear view mirror and the nut driving behind me was flossing his teeth and steering with his elbows.

It is a shame that there are people that are to important to have to wait to text a couple minutes later, or they cannot pull over and do it.  They should be charge with murder and be incarcerated at least 20 to life.

We talk on the phone in the car but the answer button is on the steering wheel and the phone is in the radio, less distraction than changing the station on the radio.  My son has voice texting and it worx very well.  We will text while he is at work, he isn't holding a phone, just looks like he's talking to himself, so he doesn't get in trouble!

The National Safety Council reports that cell phone use while driving leads to 1.6 million crashes each year. Nearly 390,000 injuries occur each year from accidents caused by texting while driving. 1 out of every 4 car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving.

-----------------------
About 6,000 deaths and a half a million injuries are caused by distracted drivers (texting and driving) every year.

Shameless, they need to make that anti texting law apply to bicycles too. I came within about 1/10th of an inch of turning some dimwit darlin into highway hamburger the other day. She had her darn phone in her right hand, up close to her face, looking at it, and blew thru a stop sign. She might have seen it on the right side of the street if it was in her pocket. She tossed the phone up in the air and grabbed the handlebar, it bounced off my windshield. The guy in the 2018 f150 behind me tapped my rear bumper, set off a whole bunch of air bags, he had less than 700 miles on this truck. While I went to check on him, the dizzy darlin grabbed her phone and left while I was trying to look thru the air bag dust and see if this guy was OK. Have no idea who she was, his ins will take care of most of the replacement cost.
