Our GREAT friend has a son down your way In Ft. Benning  GA (sp?) for the military.  Long story short here!!! My BIL lives north of Atlanta, and we know the traffic! They are leaving in the morning from PA, about at 4am, and about a 11 hour drive pending stops. They need to go a bit further south than Atlanta passing by it?/  By my math, they will be hitting the horrible belt-way in about 3-5  pm and don't think there will be a issue on a holiday week-end, let alone a normal day!!  I HAVE sat for hours in that crap, BUT just could not tell them anything, they know BEST!!!! lol

Oh boy! The perimeter between 3 and 5! They'll be through it about 7. Lucky for them the Braves are in Milwaukee this weekend or it would be worse. If I were them at that time I'd think seriously about staying on 75 or 85 and not taking 285 (bypass). None of it will be good but it might not be as bad. Once they get past the airport on 85 it won't be bad but they'll remember the Grady curve for years to come

Tell them to tune in to WSB 95.5 to get the bad news, there won't be any good news. WSB is pretty good about giving out traffic alerts. I don't even get close to Atlanta if I can avoid it. Straight through on the downtown connector will be their best bet, on 285 you drive with one foot on the accelerator and the other on the brake pedal. Tell them a big THANK YOU from me to their son for his service.

Dave, did your friend make it through Atlanta okay? Heard on WSB around 4:00 that the traffic was a mess due to rain showers and thunderstorms. Ft. Benning is in Columbus, GA and Phoenix City, AL right off I85.

If they started the weekend construction before they got there they may still be there
