    Posted: 21 May 2018 at 3:35pm
My Wd45 is leaking hydraulic oil internally. I can fill the hydraulics up and not even use them and a couple days later it’s low again. I’m thinking it’s leaking into the transmission because after this happens the transmission is over full. I’m wondering if I can use it like this as long as the tranny isn’t over full since I don’t use the hydraulics. What could be the issue and how hard of a fix is it?

I believe I'd keep filling the hydraulic compartment and the problem may eventually cure itself when the oil levels are the same. Don't think it will hurt anything. The fix is remove the torque housing from the tractor and reseal the clutch shaft.

And if you use hy-tran fluid in all compartments then everyone is happy.

I’ve been using tractor tranny in the hydraulics so I’ll just keep using that and keep an eye on the transmission fluid level. Thanks all

Mack do you mean hydraulic fluid leaking in the axle fluid?

I think he means the pinion seals leaking rear end oil out next to brake drums. You would see the oil coming out the bottom of the brake housing. Seals are probably already worn out but go unnoticed because heavy oil (80-90 weight) will leak slowly vs the lighter hydraulic oil which you would probably notice immediately.

That's what I'm experiencing.  I'm using it as is for now.  Someday, it'll get torn down, re-do the brakes, re-do the axle seals, probably even split it to fix the seals between the hydraulics and tranny.

It's been this way for at least 10 years so I guess I'm not doing any more damage to it.

I replace the clutch shaft seals on my 45 a couple years ago. It not terribly difficult but is labor intensive.
