I got over the flu and finally got to the SSI office. The gal I spoke with said "I don't know a lot about it, but my understanding of this is-- if you were in service between 1957 and 1977 you are eligible for extra money each month in your SSI ck. If you were in between 1968 and 1977 you will automatically receive the extra amount. It is the guys and gals who were in between 1957 and 1968 that need to take your DD 214 to the SSI office and apply. I do not know the extra amount anyone is eligable for".
She spent quite a bit of time on the computer looking this up. I hope she is right on being automatically enrolled. I was in before the end of 68 and got out before 77. Guys this is all the info she had. Found my dog tags too. Their still green. |

Way back in 62 - joined Navy Air Reserves in 60 - the big raise was $2 in SS for me and wife got $1.00 - the 50% part .
SS is based on your x number of years and it takes the highest years out of so many of last years - so when I got laid off and went to school so no earning for a year back in 2004 that year was removed and not used in calculating later SS amount |

You have to ask about it. They do not tell you.

Ask them, I am not sure I believe the answer I got from this gal. I am going to be meeting with the county zoning people next week. Their office is right next door to the VA office. I will see if our local VA man knows anything. He told me several months ago. "The nam vets are put on the back burner when it comes to any assistance". I am wondering if this is not happening in this instance. If it is I am really gonna be PO'd.

I got to thinking this morning that the average age of a Viet Nam era vet is close to 70! Where did the years go. I was depressed, so went to an auction and bought something, but not orange. IHC 642 4 bottom spinner plow.

I vaguely recall being told by SS when I applied that I get an extra $9.00 a month for military service. I was in 1966-1968.
Now I'll have to check this out as I hate getting screwed, especially by the government. |
