    Posted: 15 Mar 2018 at 7:13pm
Can someone steer me in the right direction for a fender mount radio? I have looked at R/K, Big R type avenues but was curious if there was a "better" bang for the buck. Thanks

I'm in the same boat...I would really like a fender radio on one of my tractors. I have an old 1960s/70s era Bendix fender radio made for Allis-Chalmers, but it's far from dust-proof and the radio/speaker usually only lasts about a year. I used to buy cheap $10 AM/FM dual post Pyle analog radios from Wal Mart to put in it, but they've quit making those I think. (Guess I should've bought in bulk last time...)
I've never heard anybody say they've had a fender radio that lasted any great amount of time, so I've more or less given up. I think the vibration and dust gets to them all after a while.

oh....and it don't have a cover that closes on the front, you loosen the side dial and turn the whole radio upside down.

Geez...I ain't spending that much on a fender radio! If they still made my cheap 2-post radio for my box, I could buy a new radio every year (or longer...whenever it quits...it varies) and not get to the $260 number for at least 26 years! Wow!

Back in the 60's I saved for months for all the money needed to get me a Tractor Supply fender mounted radio, it cost me over $20.00, that was a-lot to save for me. lol

you must have GREAT radio stations, south of the 49th !! I'd rather listen to static than the 'stuff' 99.44% of them up here broadcast. There's only ONE 'oldies' FM station now, the 3 AM ones went 24hr sports or blaa-blaa-blaa !!
I gave up..now have a $$$ laptop that only plays MP3 music in the garage.Takes awhile to cycle through 80,000 songs.... It sits on a custom wooden  box that uses  a couple '97 Ford  speakers in it. Amazingly it keeps working, though once a month(when I remember) I blow the grinder grit, sawdust and other 'stuff' off the keyboard and screen .
As for a tractor mounted rig, I'd invest in a radio/mp3 player, amp and speakers. Up here ,new from China, it's a $50 bill and some time to assemble.

My older brother wanted a fender mounted radio very badly when we are younger. My father finally broke down and bought one and we mounted on the fender of the d-17. I can remember my brother baling hay with it turning it up real loud trying to hear it, and I was across the field and can hear it perfectly fine

I have a couple original Allis fender mount radios if you want to go old school AM only. They came from a dealer closeout auction. I don't know if they work or not, but would be a place to start at least. I would take $75 choice plus shipping. I can text pictures.

For what it's worth I have a pair of these that I like fairly well. You can still hear tractor noises if you don't really have them cranked up, and also supposed to save your hearing. Radio headphones

We bought a Jensen digital fender mounted radio several years ago and could not be happier. Sound carries great.

The AM fender-mounted radio that came with my D17sIV was a Huskie brand.
It didn't work when I got it (surprise?) and I never did find someone to fix it.
But the person that bought the tractor managed to find an old pro of those kind to fix it.

Best thing you can do= buy a fender mount just for looks, if that's what your after. Then, buy yourself a digital FM headphone set. Your ears will thank you later, and you will be able to understand the grandkids too!! Lol

I have this set I use while operating the ol WC and my chainsaws and the lawn mower.

I use downloaded music on my phone and play it through my Bluetooth headphones. That way I get what I want to listen to with no commercials and no static

Fred, we had one of those on both Dad's 180 and 185. I listened to one of those for many hours. One of the neighbors told me she knew what time I stopped plowing at night, because there was no more music.
There are very few AM stations left around here now.

I bought one from Carquest 25 years ago that's in an enclosure exactly like the one pictured. Still an old analog tuned model with a cassette tape player. Still waterproof. In fact, it seals so good, if you have radio on even at a high volume and then close the cover, you can't hear the radio. If you find one with the same type enclosure I think you'll be fine. If my radio dies but the enclosure is still good, I'd have no qualms about putting a digital tune radio in it.
