a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 Extended Cab. It's got 160,000 miles on it, 8 cylinder, and it's a Flex Fuel. It's LOADED!
Anybody have/had one? What to look for? Problems? Price? ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys..... |

Did you do the carfax thing on it? No fun getting a flood victim. If it's got a timing belt, it's time to put a new one on. If it's got a chain then that's one less thing to worry about. If I were in the market a GM would be my second choice. I would never buy a dodge or a road dumpster Ford.

I don't buy GM, I buy FORD......... but some common things..
-- starters last about 160K miles.. give or take... might consider new soon --alternators last about 160K miles... give or take... might consider new soon. --see when they last changed the spark plugs.. FORD runs about 100K each set --see when the trans oil was last changed ... maybe axle and transfer case also. 160K miles is just getting broke in for well maintained truck.

what you are looking at Ted, is a good choice! that's not many miles this day and age, usually that year truck will have 300,000 miles or better on it by now. flex fuel is o-k, but the E85 won't get you the miles that regular gas will. but it's good when you spend to much at the bar and can still gits home on less $$$.

Had a flex fuel GMC. Won't own another. Parts are expensive. Don't use the same parts as regular gassers.

You are going to be looking at replacing the insterment cluster if it hasn't been done. Buy a rebuilt one or after market 1. Takes a few minutes to change. Fuel pump if it hasn't been changed. Gmc sitting in my drive way has over 500000 miles on it 1 fuel pump and several sets of brakes and tires, 1 rear leaf spring.

Honestly it really comes down to how the po treated it.
If its pretty clean of dents dings etc on the underside items like mufflers and oil pans it’s probably spent much of its life on the highway. If it creaks, groans, clunks going over parking lot transitions then it probably needs suspension work. At that mileage you should budget for ball joints at a minimum or make the seller do it as part of the sale. Are the factory shocks still there? If so those were bad 100k ago.. Last time tranny fluid replaced? That mileage on original fill is not good. Same goes for coolant. |
