Installing a turbo on my 185, looking into a hx30 from a 4BT Cummins. Anyone install one of these on a 301? What needs changed? How did it work?

Never used a 30 but a 35 works really well with a small exhaust housing

Hx 35 has a 12 cm exh.housing stock? You think a 8 cm exh. Housing would do the trick? I though a hx would be entirely to big, but I’m not a turbo expert. Hx 35’s are plentiful so that would be nice!

For performance or just farming ? Ran a H1e holset for years of an L10 Cummings . Great performance from 2500 rpm upto 4500 rpm .

I farm with it,& pull it at local pulls. This is not a “ puller” bye any means. I want better performance than a crappy T4ob80 will provide.

12cm wasn't necessary stock depends what it was on. Without more fuel and rpm it may not run it. U going to need something that will run cool for farming.

That’s why I was looking into the hx 30 or hx 32. It appears the hx 32 is not very common... the hx 30 has got to be better than the TO4B80... but it havn’t been able to confirm that yet...

I may be going with a stock rebuilt unit, since I farm with it. When I put a puller together I may go with a hx 35....

the farms 185 has long been retired to farm chore duty as there are no pulls here anymore, however the 301 out of a M2  with the crappy to4b80 with a .58 a/r housing will still pull 180 hp on the dyno with the torque screw turned out.. it has a 220 pump - 4 roller 31mm plungers and (044 stock tips),  we kept after detuning it a tad ... in case an emergency arrived :-)   7020's used the To4 b80 as well.  While not for full out pulling it is probably not a limiting factor until larger lines, tips, and pump are installed.
When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..

We have an hy35 on our 190 and it works great. Granted we are running 7080 nozzles and have had he pump gone through. But we’ve still used it from time to time in the field.

It really wasn’t that hard to put it on either. We bought an adapter on eBay for pretty cheap and then made our own charge pipe. And we just run a k&n style filter on it clamped right on the turbo. We did have to cut a hole in the hood because the exhaust exits towards the rear To keep everything under the hood. You can even take the down pipe flange off the turbo and get a new one from eBay that has a 3” outlet
