Well while I await a radiator for our junk rustball dump truck I decided to tackle the 'weak' upper roller on my old machine. Was a little worse than "Weak"!! Much gratitude to AC Mel for that good luck hat he sent me, got me thru this without breaking rail!! So glad I had my spare parts donor!

next up, got about 40-50 yards moved, new bucket working well as to cutting. Started getting hot out, around 100 heat index at noon, high humidity so decided was time to take a break and start working on those items needing NEW attention!! Right sprocket nut backed off again, was backed off when I bought the machine, managed to get tight and set with the large punch/hammer method where previous leakage slowed WAY back, did again this time as does not come fully off threads, keeper plate bolts are all sheared, may need to weld it in place to complete this job. Also have a trans leak under the floor plates, have to dig into that once cools some.

Hmm as that nut is suppose to be at say 1000 ft pounds or so I figure a 10 ft pipe and my weight on it at about 8 ft out from wrench is about right torque on a HD5 sprocket nut - can't see how a hammer and punch could even come any where near right torque.

Was loose way too long before I got the machine. The sprocket never fully tightens to the shaft from wobble but does get to where will not leak to this extent. I have driven the nut full around until stopped, will not take any additional movement and the sprocket still wriggles some. I have a donor machine as well a replacement shaft with sprocket on it sitting in my shop that came with the machine. Have a new seal(last one known to exist US) and new bearings, just have to get time to get the truck off.
Taking the rear of the truck off with a gas axe or saw I do not think will fly, the 7G has a added side reinforcement and the sprocket does not clear the last roller flanges, rides inside the cup region.

It does have that odd flared bolt to the loader frame as the 6G did.

That looks like a 73 chevy c60 or c65 dump .we have had a few about 5-6 two had one number difference in the vin number . most of them had 366 or 427 engines in them with air brakes and tag axles. The last one I had was about 10 years ago had about 14 tons of gravel dumping and the left frame rail broke . so with a broke frame and everything else worn smooth out I took the 12 yard bed off and sent it to china .

This one is a bit newer but maybe more rusted! Is a 1985 C70, 366 4bbl with a mostly wasted crash box Clark trans, hydraulic disc brakes, electric clutch engine driven PTO which is weak as snot. Left door window frame rusted away and the window sits off angle won't go up or down, the entire wagon should have been one to go to China!! Yet it does move dirt, around four to five yards a shot.

All of our truck had the manual pto . 18-5 2 speed rear ends with 5 speed tranny. the one before last the electric 2 speed kelp burning up so we put a air 2 speed in it and never had anymore trouble out of it . the 427 model would haul 12-14 yards of dirt up the river bridge with a blink of an eye .the 366 would start talking about half way up. they were some good old trucks in there time .

Well got the nut set, pressure washed, hose replaced and washed then welded nut retainer. Topped off fluids and down the hill, only to see the stack begin to twirl. Thought at first stack pipe broke, NO, the elbow after the turbo broke between the square and round section the pipe is attached to. Back to the shop we came.

Dave....Oh Dave....are you wearing the magic hat?...You didn't leave it on the track when you took that picture did you? You're having to many issues to have that hat on. Maybe you need a blue one to go with the orange one....They have other medicinal qualities that could help.

Morning Mel,
No the hat(s) have been fine, been good for luck and keeping sunburn off an old brain!!
This was bound to happen, been abused before I got this far and still throwing up a bit now and then. I believe I can weld this back, the old T04 still has the four bolt holes flange available so may end up building something off a heavy 90 exhaust pipe from there. Still seems as I push it harder it does get a bit more temperamental!! Wouldn't happen to have a old 7000 scrapper sitting with one of these on it?

Aint pretty but have built up the steel where there was none. Will allow the days heat to pass and overlay the entire weld tomorrow to clean it up some. Will need a total replacement later as this one is pretty well used up.

Made a 7018 3/32 overlay on it this morning, then back to work. All is hanging in there including the heat for now so gave up for the day. Sprocket is hanging in there minimal leakage once again.

This heat is no joke .Saturday I was pushing up scrub brush and was ringing wet with sweat by 10am .went back around 4pm and worked till dark and was soaking wet with sweat again .

I believe it. I was in Florida all last week with family, temps were high 90's each day and humidity was almost 100% every day. You couldn't breathe.
Came back home Saturday to Michigan, same weather and they had it all week. Our Michigan schools do not have air conditioning and they are still only having half days due to the heat.
Crazy. Starting this Thursday we are in the mid 60's during the day and 40's at night.

Yesterday I found a HD7G elbow and no parts number on and dimention are 3 7/8 inchs on top, the flange 5 inchs,patern bolts 2 3/4 inchs and he is 9 inches hight
