Hello everyone
I'm back to ask a couple more silly questions, I recently opened my steering strainer and filter and found both clogged and the oil was black an full of sludge . Now I was looking to change my fluid while I have it tore down in my drive way just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction for the fluid type.. the side stamp on the dozer says bevel gear and steering compartments is ATF when -10f and SAE 10w type-C above -10F. Am I dealing with the right fluid? And what is everyone else running with out having problems? Also is this the fluid being used for the cylinders? I need to order my service manual! Sorry to be a pain zack |

I am using a 10Wt hydraulic oil from MFA is purple and very heat resistant, Love the function of it on my worn out 7G. Very similar to Hytran oil and called by MFA as their replacement to Hytran. DO NOT BUY Generic trans/hydraulic fluids, buy a good brand 10wt hydraulic fluid that will interchange with hytran.
With a good brand of hytran will not have to cycle into ATF Type A(Dexron is the replacement for the Type A whale oil) in winter. Much easier on clutches and brakes. Edited by DMiller - 20 Sep 2017 at 3:57pm |

Good info DMiller. What is MFA? Is that a brand or where you purchased it.

Down here we have a farmer owned farm administration or MFA, https://mfa-inc.com/
Don't know if anything as that exists in MI, they primarily use Phillips or 66 oil company products expressly labeled under their ID. Any name brand HYTRAN should be fine. Edited by DMiller - 26 Sep 2017 at 5:22am |

Wool woop! I use shell in my Bobcat, John Deere and Oliver diesel tractor. Fluids are not foreign to me and welcome any suggestions from the group as you have the knowledge and experience. Brands and descriptions are a huge help for me. Thank you.

Hey gentleman. I also can see how confusing the which hytran to use can confuse. At my local Tractor Supply they sell several hydraulic/transmission oils. Brand wise their brand is called traveler, they also selll mystic and Shell Rotella. I would trust the Shell product so what numbers am I looking for? 10 w hytran? Any other defining numbers or descriptions I have to look for? I am replacing my steering/transmission fluid on my Hd16. What is G4?
