I recently got a nice L306 for my single front wheel C. The deck was in pretty good shape. I had all the parts sandblasted and primed. I painted it today with the correct Woods center line yellow. The pics show more yellow than orange, so they are not quite accurate on the computer. One of the spindles was toast, so I bought a replacement. I also got new toe guards, blades, decals and skids. I really like these mowers.

I have a L59 on my C. Wish it was the wider L306 like you have. You should have good luck with it.

I think it varied by year. I have an L59 that is almond (cream). I wanted to keep this one original. I kind of like the yellow.

Nothing wrong with the yellow color as my Danco bush hog for my 720 is yellow. My guess is it was safety yellow for obvious reasons. Manufactures at times would paint equipment a different color for customers if they ordered multiple units. For instance the state of Virginia had Ford and New Holland tractors painted safety yellow so they would be visible while mowing along the roadways. They no longer do that to save money. A few years ago they announced they would no longer pay manufactures to change their factory colors. Now you see white dump trucks, blue New Holland tractors, and green JD tractors used by the state. The amount of money saved was unbelievable, i don't remember the dollar amount but I was shocked and wondered why it took so long to make the change.

AC 720 The state of Iowa orders everything (trucks, pickups) in chrome yellow. Its actually a factory color -- surprized me. Tractors, vans, cars are numerous colors.

Still waiting on a few parts, but got the decals on today. I couldn't find "L306." The decal set only came with "Woods."

I see the left side plate appears to be missing. Is this a part that your waiting on? They work Well as a rear discharge mower. Nice looking job. Make sure you keep the main drive belt very tight to prevent premature wear and breakage. They are not cheap as you probably already know. The correct twist and setup will drive you crazy, but after that they mow very well. Dad has had his for 12 years under his CA. I can take a picture of the L306 decal and measurements if you want to have them duplicated.

AC720Man,
No, I have the plates, just haven't fully assembled. Thanks for the advice on the belt. I priced the Woods belt at around $150. I have one...hopefully it's good. |

Got the holes repaired on the final drives. That was not easy. I hate
doing that kind of repair. I got the mower mounted and I think it looks
good. Tomorrow I'll get the belt on and the guards, etc. I'm still
waiting for one more part from Messick's to install one of the blades.

Steve,
Guess I missed this restoration of the Woods mower! Came out great and really pops under the Persian Orange C! Nice work down to the decals! We use Wood mowers on IH C tractors to mow our tractor show grounds. They have three ready to go when the grass is high. Good mowing units! Regards, Chris |
