1959 D17 gas. Loader with two buckets, rear mounted snowblower, tire chains. Series 3 with a Series 4 motor (supposedly). Has a large homemade cab on it. Needs dry clutch, which is no big deal, I can repair myself, but convenient to drive the price down.
Ay idea of a rough value?

Depending on condition and operation. I would say $2000 to $3500 range. Maybe more with loader?

If it is a 1959, it is not a series III. The 226 engine is basically the same through the series.
Lots of things to consider: Condition of tires, does then engine run well/smoke, sheet metal.
I'd try to get it between $2000 and $2500, then sell the snowblower for $700 or $800 :)

Get serial #, some one can tell you what year it is. Are the head lights on fenders or radiator cover? Where is the power steering pump? Does wide front bolt to torque tube with 2 or 4 bolts? Sounds like a 59 with a series 3 motor. Lowers value by 1000.00 dollars. MACK

Also, Wide Front, Single, or Narrow Front makes a difference in price. WFE tractors are worth more out here

From what I have found, the only big difference in the engines is that beginning with "Engine" serial number 19978, the oiling system went from low pressure to high pressure and it then utilized a modern spin-on oil filter. This probably occurred sometime in 1959. The other change to the engine began with "engine" serial number 17293 when the head was changed to accept the 3/4" rather than 3/8" reach plugs. Both of these changes happened during the Series I run; 1957-1960. So...even if it is a series I, if it has the high pressure oil system and the long reach plug holes, the engine has everything the series IV engine has. |

I am not sure how D series serial numbers work. The serial number is D171859. So do D17 serial numbers start with "D" or "D17"? What I'm getting at, is this tractor number 171859, or tractor number 1859? Thanks for the help, I've never dealt with a tractor as new as these fancy D series. Its a darn nice tractor, I will post some pics and ask more questions as soon as I have time to learn how to post pics again.

Actually, after a quick check on tractordata, it can't be tractor number 171859 because they didn't make that many.

It should read D17 1859. There is usually a space between the 7 and the serial number.

That is a very low numbered D-17 and probably originally had the low pressure oiling system. Check the "Engine" serial number to see if it is higher than 19978 and has the high pressure oiling system. If so, a newer engine may have been installed at some point. The high pressure system uses a modern spin-on filter just like a Ford FL-1A.

I couldn't find an engine serial number. I was told it is a Series 3 with a Series 4 motor. We know now it is a Series 1. But, it has a Fram PH8A filter on it, so it has the newer oil system, right?

Fram PH-8A filter is for the newer "full-flow" oiling system. Engine s/n is directly behind the carb rubber air hose.
