Just got an email from AGCO announcing that Robert Ratliff has passed.
I got to meet him at a meeting not long before he retired. Interesting man. Robert Ratliff Edited by JimIA - 25 Apr 2017 at 3:12pm |

I Received several hand written responses from him after he got Allis-Gleaner Company off the ground. He was an amazing person and always had "orange" in his mission. He'll be sadly missed. Thanks for letting us know of the sad news....

My dad's 8070's (3148 & 3153) have a tie to him. Dad bought them new in 1987. They both had steering issues and the tractors were under load from Allis Chalmers Credit Corp. Dad somehow managed a phone call with him and he send a man named Steve Rosendoll, I think, to our dealer. He was there about a week. This was in the winter time and Mr. Ratliff told dad not to make his payment until that spring to make sure the problem was corrected. Mr. Ratliff rates very high with us.

AGCO had a great run because of Mr. Ratliff, and if it hadn't been for that plane crash in England where Mr. Ratliff's son in law or some other relative and other upper management people were killed, I think the company may still have been painting tractors orange and still known as the Allis Gleaner Company.

Yes, spot on. The plane crash was the beginning of the end for the orange paint. Robert lost his key men and he couldn't do it alone. He really touched a lot of people...
