when having a 226 crank stroked,  do people have the journals moved to account for the bore offset to the crank or is there enough room at the top for the rod to be offset with an automotive piston?  need to have one stroked to 5.4 to run with H farmall rods and chevy pistons.
Have not done this before,  surely reputable cranks servicers would know this or ask?

I also have a crank for a UM engine im looking to stroke.  
did some quick measuring with a  tape and some figures and it seems the cylinder pairs are on 5.5 inch centers.  Is this what i should tell the crank grinder or does it need to be more accurate?

I can only afford this once so it needs to be right.
i suppose cam lobe location would factor into this also depending on the length of stroke?  doubt many if any have done a UM crank

All the 226 cranks I've ever had stroked are "on-center" exactly as the journals were before they got welded on.

Take your camshaft and lay it on the crankshaft, as the gears would line up or as it is in the engine.  Now mark your journals or give measurements in some form or another for the center of the new journals position.   Position the new journals in the center of the cam lobes, it just helps with clearance issues.  There may be a small issue depending on the rod top if you have to narrow one side of them slightly, but likely there won't be anything to do to them, just pay attention to make sure they clear the piston bosses when assembling.

The Farmall H and 350 rods are the same length, bearing bore diameter is the same.  Those engines use 2 different crankpin diameters it's a difference int he bearing.  2.25" and 2.29" are the two sizes.  If possiable go with the 2.29" crankpin, it just means there is more room later on if a pin gets damaged and needed to be ground undersize or a different rod got used in the future.

thanks for the input guys.  being my first time dealing with this I wasnt exactly sure how to proceed. Wi,  my brother is finally going to put a motor together with the parts we bought from you several years ago to go in a wc. I didnt figure we would have any issues at 5.4" and I will be going with a set of murphy's rods in the bigger motor so should have room without doing any block work.  now just need to head out back to the money tree.
