CA got out pulled by a hot rod JD H in 3500 open class today at Emory Texas.
I pulled alone in 4000 and could not beat the distance the JD H pulled in 3500. But.I was able to pull farther than I did

I had one more chance to out pull somebody in 4500. Only other tractor in the class was a weighted Farmall Super H. He dumped 500# to make the class and I borrowed his dumped weights to get the CA up to 4500.
Side by side it looked like a total mismatch. To my surprise the little CA out pulled the Farmall by enough to make it obvious without looking at the numbers. I don't think he will too quick to loan his weights next time we meet.
Made my day of pulling fun.
Now the challenge is to out pull the hotrod JD H the next time we meet.

A "hot rod" John Deere H, that sounds like an oxymoron. I seen some hot As, Bs, And many Gs, but an H? Next thing someone will say they have a hot MH Pony.

Although I'm glad your out there having a great time with your CA. Our pull for Sunday got cancelled due to this weeks rain. 
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

   All you need to do is hear this little skinny tire H run compared to any other JD in that class. This ain't no ordinary Poopin Johnny. I have put him away many times before on a hard clay track at #3500. When I'm not there to give him a run for his money he always finishes #1.
   Lesson learned is short fat tires against tall skinny tires on a sandy track is no advantage at all.
   How I beat the Red Super H is very hard to figure out.
   Only 2 ACs at this pull. A styled WC had serious surging problems and only pulled stock 3000.

Around here any H I've ever seen barely has the power to spin out if only weighted to 2500 pounds. If they were to weight up to the 3500 pound range they would have trouble just driving around, let alone pulling a sled. As I've said many times, "If someone thinks they have a HOT 2500 pound tractor, come to one of our pulls around here and show what you've got". Rarely do we ever see anyone new come around and even then they don't answer the challenge to get better they just never come back. My 2500 pound tractor pull the sled about the same as 3500 pound stock tractors do. There's one place that I went to years ago that a club member ran an H and after going three times the distance the H did (and in 3rd gear to boot) I was told never to come back. Many are sore losers when it come to a cheap trophy. Like when I used to be able to run the 2000 pound class, I've never seen a Pony or Cub be able to spin out in LOW gear. 
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

I have tried to figure out just how in the world this Dumpy Little H gets the guts it does.
Joe Bob Bussy has to be the Paul Barnsley of the Green World. From the time the sled begins to move and he shoves the throttle wide open the rpm begins to build steady to the point where you think it's going to scatter at the about 7/8ths distance. My guess is it's the flywheel inertia built is what carries him to the end of the pull where he spins out or just plain starves for power.
No joke. This guy has got it figured out on how to make a little stock looking H competitive. His obvious added weight is all on the frame rails just forward of the engine. I don't know how much he weights the rear wheels. He only pulls 1 class with his H. #3500 competitive, defined as non factory stock additional weight added.

   Don't you just love it when the flag man, after a long brisk walk backwards, unhooks you and says "GOOD PULL".

I had an H junk deer the only thing it would be good for would be a lawn decoration but not even good for that wrong color. It couldn't pull nothing.Best day of my life when it went down the road !!

Seeing is believing.
A while back this same H won every 3000 class I watched him pull in by many feet.
When you get one guy winning all the time pretty soon everybody else competing against him stays home.
All this guy does is farm tractor repair and build Green pulling tractors for himself from his little H to his 830 with some more in between.
Strangely enough he built the sled he pulls and wins pulling. When not pulling himself he operates the sled most of the time. But. Not this past Saturday. EERM

Ok< Now I get it, He owns the sled and wins, I've seen that before.  We had a sled operator around here that was holding the brake on some people and letting others get started always before engaging the clutch. It was reported that for a fee he would put the sled in a lower gear for you.  This were really looking suspicious and a few tractors that were duds started doing well. There were some that thought they saw this going on but were always rebuked. After some videos were taken of the fellow on the sled, he got mad and sold the sled. I don't mind being beat fairly by anyone, but being beat by the sled operator is wrong. It's easy to be a big fish in a little pond but when some of the so called HOT tractors get hooked to an outsiders sled, they aint much.
    If he thinks he's tough he should come to the pull at out local JD dealer on October 16Th. I'd bet his travel expenses that H would fall flat on it's face here in our east coast clay.
 Ken: If you don't believe that short fat tire can out pull taller ones, watch this again. For reference the flag person was beyond the winning pull previous to my run at the end of the class. This is at 3000 pounds in 2nd gear. You need to get away from the creepy-crawly gear.

My next fun pull coming up is Oct 28 & 29 at the Louisiana State Fair Pull in Shreveport. Two complete pull programs back to back the 2 days.
Gives one a chance to experiment on Friday for the ribbons on Saturday.
Got rained out last year for the first time in 6 years running. We will just have to wait and see if the sun shines or not.

   The Fair has the ways and means to set up a tent plenty big to cover the length and width of the pulling track but shows no interest in putting one up.
   You should see the huge tent they set up right next to us so folks can play BINGO in the dry. One year they shut down the pull while the BINGO game was on because they said the players couldn't hear the numbers called over the noise we were making.

A friend entered his John Deere H in our local fairs antique tractor pull. He couldn't even move the boat last year. He didn't pull it this year. He did not build it as a pulling tractor just a show tractor.

Last pull for the year a t Moses Lake, WA The CA did good! Full pull in 2500 6mph. in 3k 4, dropped a cyl, last pull for all the bb's pulled 6mph on 3cyl and got 2nd out of a class of 4 good tractors. Got beat by another CA . The WD did ok too with 5 2nd place ribbons. A super good power track and a good time was had by all !!!
Paul, would love to pull with you but logistics, as in coast to coast, is a problem.
Ken, you're right in the middle so you may be in our sights. We'll see how the kid does with her migraines.

I am useing belly weights now instead of the wheel weights to quickly change weight classes because small # of pullers in each class and need to be back in line for the next pull, like in about 7 Minutes! I have 2 sets of engine side-weights, 6 Massey 80# suitcase weights, and 6 JD 42 # suitcase weights.
The rear wheel weights are too heavy to quickly mount and return to the staging line!
