Hello,
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a CA with a voltage regulator in the system?
The CA I have came with the voltage regulator... If I start it up and ground the field it pegs the amp meter in the discharge direction.... Wondering if the previous owner switched from positive ground on the battery to negative ground?
Wiring diagram would help....

With a regulator instead of the Hi Lo light switch, the wire going to the light switch from the generator is the field or "F" wire on the regulator. The larger wire going to the battery from the generator will go to the regulator terminal that will be marked "ARM" or "GEN". Then there will be a wire going to the battery through the ammeter connected to the "BATT" terminal.
First thing I would do is polarize the generator. It can work either polarity unlike an alternator. To polarize all you do is momentarily touch the BATT and ARM terminals together with a piece of wire. It will make a spark. You also will want to make sure the ammeter polarity is correct. Turn the lights on with the engine off. If the meter shows charge, reverse the connections on the back of it. |
