D17 slipping in road gear

My d17 puller is slipping in road gear, is there an easy way to get rid of the power director, or should I try to repair it, not looking to spend a ton of money.

How do you know it's the hand clutch ??........high side or low side ?

I put a brand new custom clutch in it, it is slipping in 4 high

Well, you start by removing short shims from the high side (rear) of the hand clutch and installing equal amount of long shims in the center. Not there, but I'd remove .020" to start.  So, it handles the low side of 4th gear just fine?? What weight and HP you running?

If you have to much power you could put a D19 clutch pack in it. They have more clutches my Uncle did it to his turboed 175.

I'm trying to run 4500-5500, we are guessing the engine to be around 120. Is there a good way to remove the clutch pack entirely.

Just an opinion but at 120 hp id try to keep it in ,it may come in handy just in case you need a lower gear ; either a D19 pack or different discs material or ive heard of running them dry ;

Is the d19 a direct fit, with out it would I be on the low side of speed or higher.

Yeah, sure.....split it. Buy a 21-spline 1 1/8" PTO coupler(1000 rpm) and use that to connect the clutch shaft and trans input shaft.  120 HP at 4500 RPM shouldn't be a problem ( same as 60 HP at 2250 RPM) with the hand clutch if it's shimmed tight enough. 5500 RPM will help have the hand clutch explode if you do it often enough.

I won't be running much over 2700 rpm,with out the clutches would it be like I am in high or low.

With the 1 1/8" 21-spline coupling it is DIRECT drive (high side). If you want low side, that can be done too, but it's pretty mucn one or the other.
