Would it be a problem using synthetic oils in the Transmission,Rearend and Final drives of our 42 & 47 Wcs? If not what weights do you suggest? Thanks. Roger. |

You might get 10 different opinions but I used 90W gear lube in the tranny & differential and the finals. Tranny and differential won't be hurt by using a universal hytran fluid.

Today's synthetics (in the proper weight) won't hurt anything that I can think of.

Cost is the big factor as synthetics seem to have a high up front cost. In a vehicle with high millage and heavy use i could see it but in tractors used seldom there would be no advantage. In the final reduction a GL5 lube and in rest of gears and such the Universal Fluid instead of Non Det motor oil.
Same in hyd system the Universal fluid unless the spec calls for ATF. In torque converters and some shared systems the ATF is required.

Note that most old style rope type seals do not like synthetics and are prone to leaking; switching back to non detergent oil will not correct the leak on many old style seals such as rope type.
