This is the generator on my '51 WD. I can't read the tag but it has a Delco-Remy cutout and 3 brushes, I suspect it may be an Autolite though. The rear bushing cover is oblong not a triangle and the band over the brushes is a screw clamp not a clip. Sorry about the poor picture but it's all apart right now for rebuilding. Can anyone tell me the number and mfg? What were all the possible models they put on the WD? |

Bill,
Sure looks like a Delco to me. The gennie on my '51 CA looks very similar except for the rear cover. It has the screw type band over the brushes. I'm sorry I can't answer the second part to your question regarding the manufacture numbers, but I think if you clean off the tag on gennie you may the numbers you need.

I wasn't able to confirm the make from the tag (maybe Delco?), and the numbers are worn smooth. Also, I'm trying to replace the bearing on the pulley end of the shaft but the keyway prevents it from sliding off the shaft. Is this supposedly a removable key?

The popular Delco which came on the WD/WD45 model Tractors utilizing the OEM 6V system used the Delco 1101430 Generator. This was a three brush unit which worked with the common Delco reverse current relay. (cutout) HTH

The key fits in the keyway, or keyseat. Remove the key to remove the bearing.

If you take a small flat punch and hit one end of the key sharply that should raise one end so you can remove it with cutting pliers. Cal in Ct

I determined what I have here is an Autolite Generator, I could only make out a couple letters on the tag so I was guessing Delco. A fellow on the YT forum told me if I have flat head screws for through-bolts it is an Autolite, as opposed to the 3/8 inch through bolts on a Delco. The differently shaped rear bushing cover also points to Autolite. Hope that helps. Edited by Bill_MN - 24 Nov 2009 at 9:44pm |
