gasket tear in carb. cause sputtering?

Hello All-
 
I think I know the answer to this one already, but I wanted to check with the experts.  I took apart my carburetor on my WD45 yesterday to clean it and noticed a small tear in the gasket that goes between the fuel bowl and the upper portion of the carb.  Would a small tear there be enough to cause sputtering at idle?  Thanks....

Lets in air changes the mixture. Had one in a Ford car once that whistled a different pitch according to the throttle setting. Couldn't find one so made one of a cereal box and it worked fine for years.

If you make your own pay attention to the small passages that have to have a clearance hole in the gasket.

I suspect it sure could. Might be more noticeable at higher aspriation rates, that is, higher rpms. You might...just a suggestion...check the timing. My D-14 runs great, but had a little puffing miss that went away under load. I moved the distributor just a tad, and that was the end of the miss. Good luck. Larry
