Is there a good way to determine if an engine has a blown head gasket vs a cracked block? Reason I ask is that I am looking to purchase an item that the seller says runs but smokes a little due to a blown head gasket. I am more than willing to rebuild an engine, not a problem, but a cracked block could be an issue.
Thanks

I always look in the coolant for air bubbles when the engines running if any head gasket trouble is suspected , or oily water etc; if waters going into a cylinder it,ll usually be whiteish smoke ; one never knows , but any more if its cracked it can prolly be weded up ; been there done that
