It looks a lot better with the front axle moved forward. I think these tractors were ahead of their time. Wasn't it several years before the other companies moved the seat ahead of the rear axle.JP

VERY nice!! I'd say you got an excellent deal to boot. What prompted you to do the modifications, and were you satsified with the results?

Toscani I totally agree with you. They look wrong with the axle moved ahead, but i guess it has its reasoning, but just don't look right to me IMOP.

LOVE the look of the forward axle. tell us what it took for that mod. were you able to unbolt, move forward, and redrill the hanger for the diff and then extend the drive shaft??
that is how they should have been from the factory. hm |

i had to cut the rear hanger for the 2wd axle off. then just moved to rear most holes to where the front holes were, and then redrilled for the front bolts. i then had the driveshaft extended at a local machine shop. he also made the tube out of heavier material.

How the turning radius compare?
I think both ways look great. Still one of the best looking tractors ever made IMO. Is it a powershift? How many hours when you bought it? |

yes powershift. and it had alittle over 5000 on it. the reason that i did it is because it should ride alittle better and also should go threw more.

Turning radius on mine got alot better because I could set the steering stops in and still clear my loader, might cut it down a shade on a regular tractor but well worth it in my opinion!!! Night and day difference in ride!!

Better check the manual for tire size combinations. Going up a size on the rear and down a size on front is a good way to break things if it is not a recommended combo in the manual.

Peterson I like the look. It makes the tractor look alot bigger when you move it up. The longer wheelbase rides so much better. The turning radius will be worse, but it was just to short coupled, wants to hop going down the road. IG |

jordan, if you would have read the first post, i said it had oversized tires on the front. with 20.8r38's you should have 14.9r28 or 16.9r26. not the 18.4r26's. the correct combo for a 20.8r42 is a 18.4r26 or a 16.9r28.

Still going great! She has had a few upgrades in the engine though. My engine build thread is here someplace, along with the cam and flywheel swap thread too.

Hey, if it rides smoother in the field and down the road, I see no reason to not move the axle forward. I'm all for reasonable performance enhancing.
