It is jumping when I lift my 59 mower. Even after cycling 4 or 5 times. I use 30 wt motor oil. Could one of the pistons be stuck in? I don’t really use it all that much so it’s not a big deal. I need to replace the gasket on the shifter plate after mowing is over so since I have to drain the oil, I will pull the pump to.

when the cylinder packing leaks, they TIGHTEN the nut and compress the packing.. When the packing gets old and hard as a rock, and you TIGHTEN it more, it will drag BAD..
If you dont have new packing in the last few years, i would try that.....as a test, loosen the head nut and let it leak, and try it to see if the JUMPING goes away
