I am wondering if you have to take the cab off a 2004 or a 2006 Ford 150 Pickup to replace the motor - I have located several pickups with good bodies and transmissions that need motors. I know a mechanic told me the motors set far enough back in a Ford that he would not consider doing any work on a Ford. My 2006 Dodge had the engine replaced by him with a used motor about 130,000 back, it now has 330,000 on the body, the motor is using oil, the truck is basically shot as the bed rusted long ago. But it still has the original transmission which is even hard for the mentioned mechanic to believe, he has put transmissions in a Dodge at less than 100,000 before

you dont have to take the cab off.. It can be done with the cab on.. but as you said, you spend a lot of time standing on your head and setting on top of the engine....... not a game for an OLD GUY.

If is as my Super Duty was, this was ONLY way to change Turbocharger.  Core Support panel and Internal Fender system does not come off.

2006 should have the 5.4 V8... or slightly smaller 4.6 V8... those were the most common.. Newer can be turbo V6 , or diesel..

2004- 2006 with a "bad motor" is probably the 5.4 with Variable Cam Timing that was not well maintained with oil changes..... VCT chain / tensioners / sprockets / solenoids can all get damaged .

Good luck as to finding those used and functional, most will not even core out for exchange engines.  Those are 20yo machines and junk when new.
