Who has the best battery cables? What is best ends to buy if you make your own? What is best end fastening system? Thanks, Tracy

I had one made up at the local farmers union service station a couple weeks ago that I was very impressed with. I can't give you a name brand or anything because I don't know it. But we used really heavy cable (I believe it's called two-ought?????) Cut it to correct length,stripped the ends appropriately, and crimped the ends on using the hydraulic hose crimping machine. Then put heat shrink tubing in place on the connections. Turned out great. Would think that some auto parts places would be set up to do that. Darrel

Tracy, I have used Many times, they are quick and have always had good prices.
I finally got mad during the Covid nonsense and bought a hydraulic crimper and got a selection of ends that I most use, and a roll of cable. Problem solved!

If you go the 'make your on route' be sure to properly 'tin' the ends to consolodate the strands into a solid conductor and seal the ends with 'liquid rubber' or similar product.

Quickcable. Sold through many dealers. CNH dealers can have parts direct shipped to them (slow, not from warehouse, likely minimum order), , basically the QC P/N with a ZQC on the front of it. QuickCable is often cheaper in the end, but again, minimum order likely applies.

I have ordered through Waytek to get both ends and cable, not worth doing unless you are doing a larger order. To crimp the ends we use the hose crimping tool, makes a nice tight crimp. If you make your own make sure to use something to seal it, heat shrink with adhesive lining is best.
I realize not everybody has a hose crimper, but if you are on good terms with your local hydraulic shop you could probably convince them to do it. It has been a while since we have done any, but I think we use 00 cable.

Take off old cables to have pattern.. Go to local parts store and ask if they can make battery cables, if yes, then I'd ask for #1 gauge for gas and #2 OO (2 ought) for diesel, get heat shrink tubing on both ends. You'll never be short on wiring from battery to starter with those cable sizes. Unless you're over 500 hp and it's setting where it's really cold.

I never thought of using a hose crimper for battery cables; we always had them at the sawmills when I worked there but now I am retired so that is no longer an option for me.

I just use my crimper for Hi-Tensile fence connections. and get cable and ends from the local HD truck parts place. And ALWAYS use heat shrink at the ends.
