I need a sediment bowl assembly and a gas cap for my Series II D-12.  Does anybody have a good recommendation of an on-line source to get parts with some resemblance of quality? (not TSC crap).  Also a lot of the gas caps I see listed for the D-12 are not vented.  I tried a non-vented cap once and the tractor wouldn't keep running very long.  Is it supposed to be vented or non-vented?

The cap has to be vented. Any gas tank that does not have a vent built into it, needs a vented cap.

As far as the sediment bowl assembly, I know of none that are of better quality. I have changed several over the years and I see very little difference in quality in the aftermarket sediment bowl assembly than the original.

As for the sediment bowls, It really doesn't matter what the packaging is, they all come for the same place. If you end up with a bad one, it just escaped the poor QC, try another.
And yes it needs a vented cap that also allows the built up pressure to release, because when the tractor get up to operating temperature the gas in the tank has expanded more than you'd think.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

I ended up ordering from NAPA.  Part supplied was Sparex brand - looks reasonable; will have to see what happens when installed.  Not made in China - made in India.

My experience is that NAPA has gotten ridiculous on their pricing.

The problem around here with NAPA is they don't stock any parts for anything not made in this century. The coulter people sound like Central Tractor before they went out of business;  "We can order it"   SO CAN I! If a place want's me to buy local, what I want needs to be on the shelf so I don't need to make two trips to town. Otherwise I'll get it delivered to the front porch for less, without wasting gas driving all around town to hear the same thing at everyplace.

I ordered on-line for pick-up at store (no shipping charge).  It was at the store the next day.
