I have split this new to me tractor because the clutch was stuck. When I separated the tractor the center clutch shaft stayed in the clutch. The roll pin in the other end has sheared off. This is in a 6040. Any tricks or knowledge on how to get the sheared pin out of the transmission?

I split my 160 a few years ago to replace both clutches but didn’t have an issue with the shaft. It must have been stuck tight in the clutch for it to snap the roll pin. Will dig out my manual to try to get you an answer but I would say you have a big job ahead of you. Probably have to remove the top off the transmission? Looking at your picture, the lower shim is turned sideways or inward. The 2 shims at the top are correct with the flat side facing out. Could very well be the reason the clutch won’t release. It only takes one of the 6 shims to be facing the wrong way for the clutch to not release. Trust me I know, had to split mine again because of that issue. Depending on how worn the pto clutch is there should be 3 shims under each of the 6 bolts unless they have been removed over time for clutch wear. They are removed when it becomes difficult to engage/disengage the pto clutch. 1 shim under each bolt is removed until proper clearance is achieved. Surprised at the amount of rust/dirt all over the clutch assembly while being inside the bell housing.

Thanks for the response. I have the 6040 so I actually have 4 shims. I did notice that when I took it apart. I do have a shop manual so I am going to attempt to remove the hollow pto shaft from the clutch housing. Apparently there is one less gear in the late 160 and 6040 and the manual makes me believe I can remove it forward into the clutch housing.  I have never done this before and just want to make sure I'm not going to break something. Also that sheared pin is really stuck.  I took a punch and a 16lb sledge and it didn't budge. This pin was to be held in place in the transmission by an Interlocking external shaft ring. By the way this pin has sheared makes me believe the lock ring may be gone. The pressure plate pad for both the pto and drive line were rusted in place, and the reason I separated the tractor.
