I replaced the brake shoes on a D15 series one tractor. The shoes were the correct size. The drums were in pretty good shape. Also, replaced seals. Put everything back together and now brakes are worse than before. Brake rod adjusted to maximum position, still no brakes. Brake pedals have no resistance. Is it possible that I did not install the brake actuator properly? As you can probably tell, I am not very experienced at this.

Maximum position should mean as LONG as possible.

Thank you for responding! Yes, it is in the longest position. Could it be that the actuator is worn so much that it would act this way? I read where others have had this problem.

I'd say the actuator lever wasn't positioned correctly between the bottom of the shoes to be able the spread them apart when you step on the brake pedals. Been a long time since I've done one of those, but that's almost what it has to be.

We did our D 15 back in Dec 2015 . Just looked and the post and pics are still on here . Sadly I don't know how to share them . Good luck !

When I put it back together, I didnt think the actuator moved the shoes that much. Any idea how far they should move. Seems like it only moved the shoes about 3/16 of an inch. At the time I was thinking it should move farther than that.

The actuator arm and cam are handed.  If you had both sides apart at the same time you may have mixed them up.  Been there, done that.

 I done mind last winter and yes they move more then 3/16" , if I remember right it's like 2".

I just put a D14 back together.  The levers were on wrong side, switch sides and they were fine.   The shop manual is not so clear what view they are showing.
