I have a 7016 Simplicity w/16hp Briggs. The original battery was an odd size that Ford used and is rather expensive. Could never find it as a sealed version so they always ooze out the caps, make a mess and don't last over 2 yrs. What's the answer? I have a 25hp Kohler in a zero that uses the little square 'lawnmower" battery and it's fine but the 7016 has the starter/generator system so I don't know if a "lawnmower'' battery would do. Any ideas?

I have a B1 with a 10hp Briggs and it uses the starter/generator and little battery and does great.

I have an Allis Chalmers 716H, with 51R 12 volt battery, CA 615 amps / CCA 500 amps. The tractor is the Allis Chalmers twin to your Simplicity 7016.  It is also one of the few that was shipped from the factory with a 16 HP Briggs and Stratton engine.  It does not have the belt driven starter/generator earlier models featured.  It is a later model (1978) and has a small 12 volt electric starter, and the battery charging system has an alternator stator assembly mounted inside the flywheel. The battery gets charges up just fine.

I have a second 7016 (now parts) which has the starter and charging system like that. They put a dip stick in the block because of starter. Kinda hard to retro that. Don't remember if block has some extra bosses for the stator that my other one don't have. I do like your battery.
Starter / generator is a 74, separate starter is a 79
