I moved my 190xt in the shed the other day and when I shut it off, the starter was still running. It was not engaged to the flywheel but still running. It even ran after I shut key off. I had to run to shop and get a 1/2 inch wrench and take battery cable off. Have any of you fellas run into this? I'm assuming the solenoid is sticking. Would this be the correct assumption?

Possible starter button stuck or failed (if equipped with a button) keyswitch failed, or signal wire going to start terminal on solenoid shorted to battery power somewhere…. check these possibilities before throwing a new solenoid or starter at it.

Unhook the signal wire from starter, then hook battery back up. (Make sure its in neutral and fuel shutoff is in off position first!! Or pull coil wire if its a gasser) if starter spins, solenoid is stuck. If starter doesn’t spin, check for 12v on signal wire without turning keyswitch or pushing starter button, before trying to hook the wire back up to starter solenoid (to rule out a short, or failed switch). Sometimes solenoid will hang up and not kick back out until power is disconnected, then will act normal again.
