Plan to go from 6.50/16 to 7.50/16 loaded tires to help keep my front end on the ground . Old tires are 6 ply , new ones are 12 ply . That shouldn't be a problem , should it ? THANKS !

ii bought 14 ply x 16 inch tires for the front of the backhoe and i could not get them on the rim with "my" tools... had to go to the tire shop and have them install... He said no problem.... operations wise, there is no problem.

more plys gives more load capacity and more puncture resistance.... load depends on the rims you have.... nothing wrong with 12 ply tires... just TOUGH to flex them onto the rims.

I wouldn't be surprised if a 7:50 x 16 tire would rub on the steering arm at the top. I don't think that size of tire was ever offered on a D-15. A 6 bolt hub might be better than a 5 bolt hub for clearance.

My neighbor's D15 II had 7.50 x 16 on the front 5 bolt rims before I restored it. 12 Ply for a 7.50 x 16 is crazy! They will not have any flex at all. The only 12 ply tires I have are 24.5 x 32s on my D21.

Have my new tires on . Old unloaded 6.50/16 tires weighed about 55 lbs each . New tires weigh about 130 lbs . Should help keep my front tires on the ground ? Be a while before I'm back at the 'farm'to find out. These tires are 8 ply . Dunno why they told me 12 . Almost forgot , tires don't rub on anything . Thanks !

I have that size on my D-15 Series 2. 8 ply and real strain to mount on rims. Glad they fit. Bob

Yeah Bob , bet 12 ply would've really been hard to put on the wheels . Kinda glad they wound up being 8 ply . Dr Allis was right about the tires being close to the control arm . I'm happy they don't rub . Does your Series 2 have 6 bolt hubs ? Just curious . Thanks !

No, my D15 has 5 bolt wheels and hubs. I have a D15 Diesel Tractor Loader Backhoe that is 5 lug wheels and hubs, also.

New tires have 0423 date code . I'm thinking that means they were made the 4th week of this year ? Seems I read somewhere that it takes new tires a while to 'toughen up'? Anyone know if that's right and how long ? Thanks !

0423 could be 23rd week of 2004 ?  I'd keep couple extra PSI for a few hours of use, just to help 'seat' rubber to rim.

The last four numbers represent the manufacturer's date. The first two numbers indicate the week, while the last two indicate the year. (For example, a tire with the number 2910 was manufactured in the 29th week of 2010.)

ACinSC. You are right, it takes a while for them toughen up. Id stay outta the cornstalks/bean stubble for a month or so. When I owned my tire shop, we had a big fenced in back lot. We ordered semi loads of rears, had them delivered as close to Jan 1st as we could. They set out there for 30-45 days before we actively started selling them. I can not remember ever having trouble with fronts.
