i'm in southern AZ and the heat causes problems. I wanna install new flooring on the patio; thought about using plastic underneath the flooring for a moisture barrier. I think the plastic would desinagrate under the trex flooring. I'm thinking about using tar paper under the trex for a moisture barrier. I'm looking for opinions. there will be a solid plywood floor under the trex!

i dont think plastic under plywood would disintegrate... Think it has to be in direct sun light to have a problem..

Be careful in choosing the product and the color. plastic lumber can act as a heat sink in sunny areas, and can broil your tootsies, if you walk barefoot on it!

Tar paper is actually a pretty solid choice under Trex in hot climates - it holds up better than plastic, which can definitely break down fast in that Arizona sun. Just make sure there's no trapped moisture between the plywood and the barrier. Also, if you're updating your whole patio, check out this website URL they've got some great outdoor sets that'd go nicely with new Trex flooring.
