Hey y’all 
I just bought a H3. The manual states 3-1/2” free play from tank rim. I have 5-1/2”. So I need to turn the adjusting bolt clockwise. Problem is the locking nut is frozen to the bolt by either rust or paint...or both. I can back it all out but not inward. So I’d like to remove the bolt and nut and free them up at the bench.  My question: can the bolt be unscrewed without causing problems? I’m afraid if I back it all the way out I’ll cause a problem that requires me to access the entire clutch assembly.

Is this the one on the outside of the final drive housing? If so then you can. It pushes on the shaft(in the same hole) that actuates the clutch. Shouldn’t have to worry as long as you don’t pull clutch handle while it is out.

yes it’s located on the outside of the housing.

Thanks! I appreciate your help. Now my steering clutch is adjusted perfectly. Seems it hadn’t been adjusted in a long time. 

I have another question about the main clutch pedal. The return spring (I assume it’s the one wrapped around the rod that enters the tranny case) does not return the pedal far back enough to have the pedal touch the stop. Is that a sign of a weak spring or severely worn clutch? Is there more than one return spring for the pedal? Maybe I’m missing one.

That is the return spring but should have a funny shaped washer to keep the spring out of the housing. Most likely the reason for non return is crud in the release berg guide. Lift the pedal. Does it fall back down or stay up? If yes then it’s crud, no it’s soft spring. Clutch adjustment is determined by free travel.

Yep it’s missing that funny washer. Ill see what I can do to put a new washer on it. It bothers me a little that it allows the pedal weight to press on the clutch. Probably no big deal but why not fix it.

It will be the same as a d14 or 15.
