I have a 190XT with a mech pto. I know it would be much handier if it was hyd. Is that a bad or expensive job to put a hyd pto on?

Since you could buy another tractor for what it would cost yes to both questions. Your going to get i did it for only a couple hundered replies they had to get all the not avaliable part X from somewhere and you still have to dissasembled the counsel and to the hyd stack and split the tractor.

A complete PTO clutch box, control valve, PTO lever/linkage from console down to the valve and all the steel lines. All can be done without any major work. No split involved. Nothing available new. Will have to come from a salvage unit. Don't know what a salvage yard might want, but I'm thinking $500 to $700 bucks ???

Change the pto box underneath, and the valve, and lever, linkage in the console and proper hydraulic lines. The box would have to be the same pto speed as you have.

Foot clutch still kills the PTO.

The only scenario it helps with is like hauling manure. You pull into the field and engage the spreader on-the-go and can shut it off on-the-go.

IMO, your better better off with what you've got, even with hydraulic engagement, once the foot clutch is depressed , the pto slows/stops . Other than the PD lever, there's nothing "live" about the pto. Sad that ALLIS couldn't come up with live pto in the 100 series era

But, with the hydraulic PTO you can engage and disengage on-the-go under load or not without harm to anything. You cannot do that with the manual PTO. That's why there are so many D-17 PTO levers broken off.....people trying to force in into gear or pull it out of gear under load.

The hydraulic PTO is good for shifting in and out on the go. I liked it for cutting and baling hay. It also has a brake.

Yes, I can see the benefit of a machine that has it from the factory, the OP is wanting to perform major surgery to an existing machine
. What type of damage can/has been done to machinery with the "brake" being applied at the wrong time ![]() ??

There is a "neutral" or coast feature to allow the machine to coast to a stop and then apply the brake. Not major surgery to remove a PTO box and reinstall a PTO clutch box.

If it is a heavy load the brake will slip and slowly stop. I does nut totally lock. It's not as bad as pushing in the foot clutch and hitting the brakes.
