I believe that the Steering Box's Levershaft Oil Seal has failed on one of my Model G's.

Does anyone have any experience with replacing a Levershaft Oil Seal?

Scott, most will just have a seal seated in from the bottom (800797)
some will have a metal washer over the seal staked into the housing, the staked places will need to be ground away.
the two extra ones I have just have the seal staked in. I just clean out my boxes on mine from the top and replace the lube with "cornhead" grease, never seen a leak again

Thanks Joe!

I think my seal is truly shot (see below) HA!

Came out to the do something else in my shop building the other day and saw this.
I had filled the Steering Box with 90W Gear Oil 7 years ago. Over the past couple of months I had noticed a couple of small oil spots under the tractor but hadn't investigated further.

I found the Allis-Chalmers Part Number to be, as you noted, 800797 and went to the Interweb to find a suitable replacement. I did not find a cross-reference on the web so... I consulted my pre-Internet documents and found that a CR9837 should work. I now have 4 of those items on hand thanks to eBay.

I had a spare Steering Box among my "spare parts" pile and looked at it to see what would be involved with replacing the bad seal. As you mentioned, there are "stakes" (white arrows) around the seal of the spare Steering Box.

So I think I'd like to replace the seal on this tractor but I was hoping maybe someone else had done the procedure. I think the Model B uses the same Steering Box.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to replace the seal without removing the Steering Box from the tractor.
