Enjoyed riding the wagon watching and listening to the smooth power running our NH 273 baler. We love all our AC’s and they continue to perform well even when they are 57+ years old. The youngest being a 1981 6060. The oldest, a 1952 CA. Proof that AC made simple, reliable, powerful tractors.

You guys have a lot of great looking tractors. I don't know how y'all found the time to restore so many, and do a nice job too. I can't even get my one done.
I love to bale hay. Nothing like feeling that baler make those strokes. I would bale a lot more if it wasn't for having to haul it. It would be nice if someone would hire me to bale about a 100 acers and I wouldn't have to haul it lol!

Thanks for posting Rob! I made top hats for the rear weights so I can slide them on and off easy for pulling different weight classes. Old girl didn't miss a beat. 3/4 throttle and she settles in to a good rhythm.

Guys, Great pictures! Awesome area of the country you live in too. First glimpse of the tractor and it said "puller"! Rear wheel weight attachment modified. Front weights added. Straight stack rear tires flatter tread bars clean tires
Brings back a lot of good memories making hay too. Thanks for posting these! Great looking D17 and baler! Good combo. We used the WD45's till we got the Ford 5000 on the farm in the early 70's! Wished I had a buck for every bale we made!
My D17 is a older model (58), but gives me a idea what it might look like painted up too. Regards, Chris

I refuse to butcher it up to make it a full blown puller. I have a rear weight bar and hitch that I can swap out in 15 minutes. I just pull for fun and it does pretty good.

Right near the top on small balers NH ever made, up to 20K+ bales/year from new in 73 till farm sold in 1980 and the 273 performed flawlessly. Dad still says it was the best piece of equipment he ever had, pound for pound. That one sure looks well taken care of.

Charlie, I think I am at the same point as you. I have some minor hitch mods on mine and can add a little weight on the back. I try to make it to most of the local pulls. Also like to have it operational to do some work around here. Yours really looks nice in front of that baler! Regards, Chris

Thanks! With the front, side, wheel and rear brackets I can get 2500 lbs on it. Pull from 4500 up to 7000.
I'd put the regular muffler on it, but the Stanley one I have just sound tinny.

Charlie, That is a lot of weights to sling. A little suprised you can get to 4500 lb? I bet your D17 enjoyed the relaxing bailing day! Don't want to highjack this thread! May have already done it! Sorry! I need to get off here, and go work on a soggy WD45! Regards, Chris

Nice looking D-17. I can assure you they did not look that good new.

4500 with me on it plus 1 front weight normally. No fluid in tires. Otherwise as is.

Dad always took care of his equipment and instilled that in the 3 boys as we grew up. Have no idea how many bales she has made for us, but the 273 always performs well. I pressure washed it in the spring. We made some adjustments to the side rail slides, sharpened the knives and greased eveything well. Even the switch to the 170 plastic twine this year didn’t phase her. After switching, we like it and it’s less expensive.
