I went to look at a WD for sale a few days back and quickly noticed the following oddities:
- non power shift rear wheels
- no PTO
- no handclutch
- No hydraulic system at all. Pump, lines, rams, arms, or controls.
It’s my understanding these were all standard features on the WD
The clue that makes me think it came from the factory this was, and not just cobbled together from ofther parts, is that on the steering column, the cast semicircle just in front of the throttle and hydraulic controls was cast from the factory as just a 90 degree arc on the throttle side, no sign of their ever being the left side arc for a hydraulic control.
After a phone call with Bill Long we were of the opinion that it may have been sold that way from the factory to an industrial application for nothing put pulling.
Has anyone heard of such a tractor? Any other ideas what it’s history may be? Is it worth anything?
Unfortunately I am looking to buy a tractor that will at a minimum run a bush hog, so this one is not of value to me.
If it turns out it’s some rare specialty I may go back and make an offer anyhow.
Advertised as a 48’ model. I didn’t bother to write down the serial number as I was not interested in the purchase once I saw it was missing PTO and Hydraulics. The current owner uses it to pull a wagon on Halloween and wasn’t aware the missing features were significant.

Your dealer was able to delete one or even all this list (maybe even more) from the factory, shift rear wheels, PTO, hydraulic system, hand clutch, lights, starter, generator.

3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep.

I know WD45's were shipped to Henry mfg, for mounting loaders and backhoes, so it wouldn't me much of a stretch, to have WD's as industrial units...

What I would find to be the real head scratcher is the steering column throttle bracket. Be it a purpose build industrial model or a standard farm tractor w/dealer deletes, why go to the bother of creating a separate part for either reason.

I've seen the half throttle quadrant but only on pulling tractors where they were cut off to save every ounce possible

The parts for such a tractor are in the regular parts book. Covers, hand clutch delete coupling, etc. I did not notice the half quadrant, though.

Wheels can't be. WC was 6 hole, WD was 8. I'm not sure what that thing originally was, but they did a good job painting it. AaronSEIA

I agree about it being a puller. Using 3 pt top links for adjusting height of hitch, is a dead give away.

Couple other things that stick out is the location of the light switches. Also notice the spacers on the hitch. Stack of washers and oversize nuts. If that was factory, those would either be solid plates, or the brackets would have been made longer so no spacers would have been needed.

Without a doubt the drawbar is not original. He rewired the electrical harness to add a fuse (seen on top of the box) and add lights for the wagon he pulled neighborhood kids in at Holloween. The current owner did those switches on the side of the box unrelated to tractor pulling.
All that being said, it does all seem to point to a past puller that someone retired to suburban duty.

After further research by examining Pop's Price Book (1960) tractors could have been shipped from the factory as BASE TRACTORS. That means that the basic tractor less the PTO, Hydraulics, Hand Clutch, and the spin out wheels could have been purchased.
Looking at the pictures this is one of those BASE tractors. Why someone would want one is beyond me.
Even though I sold them for the life of the unit I was not aware of this option. In fact, having handled many WD tractors new and used I NEVER repeat NEVER saw this unit.

Im on the tractor puller band wagon as well. Ive it were a standard tractor it would still have a regular drawbar. I also noticed the shutters are also gone.

Hand clutch is not there, I'd bet money it's a solid coupling under the cover...
When I first read the opening post, puller was the first thought that came to my mind...now that I've seen pictures, pretty darn sure puller...

The factory cover was cut in a curve similar to the one in the pictures. I agree though, it doesn't look quite right. Cover was part number 70222529. AaronSEIA
