Governor - WD45

   I'm a governor novice! I've noticed two things about the governor on my WD45:

1. Engine seems to lug down under load rather than governor keeping engine speed where throttle is set. Example: driving from my friend's farm to my place in 4th gear and coming up a moderate hill - engine had enough power to get us up the hill but it sounded like rpm was dropping. Not sure if road speed dropped.

2. If I disconnect the linkage to carb and separate at the joint at front of engine, the the vertical part of the rod running across front of engine rotates about 45-60 degrees toward back of tractor.

	#2 The govenor spring pulls the verticle arm forward and the gov weights bring it back while the eng is running. When the eng isnt running you can rotate the lever about that far, its normal. #1 Unhook the linkage to the carb like you did. Move the throttle lever on the quadrant to wide open throttle. Now pull the rod forward as far as it will go, The rod should be just a shade short from going into the hole in the arm. You can bend the arm if its off, use a vice grip to hold the arm on the bottom and a cresent wrench on the top to bend. If that doesnt help invest in a new govenor spring cause they do get tired. 	Lugging down in 4th gear on a hill is normal.

	Thanks.....in this case the engine was not running when I disconnected the linkage. The vertical section of the linkage that comes out of the governor case was rotated by a spring (inside the governor?) toward the back of the engine. Haven't tried the test described above with the engine running. Is the rotation with the engine off normal?

	You need to do the adjustments with the tractor not running . The no rpms of being off keeps the centrifigal wieghts from trying to hold the rpms down.
