I have a 1963 D17 I was using to drag the driveway last night and as I was watching the last pass I made I noticed a bolt laying there. Stoped and picked it up looked all over the tractor and found it to be out of the Radius Rod pivot bracket, it appears it goes into the bell housing and has a blind fastener. How can I get this bolt tightened down or make the repair. I hope it doesn't involve the seperation of the tractor.

I looked at my D-17 Series II gas and there appears to be two bolts holding the bracket. It appears that these bolts thread into tapped holes in the bellhousing. That being the case, unless, the hole in your bellhousing is stripped, it should simply a matter of replacing the bolt and I would suggest that you install a lockwasher while you're at it.
If the threads are stripped, you can install a helicoil or drill it out and retap to the next size bolt.

I just had another thought; the bolt may be broken off somewhere inside the bellhousing. If that is the case you will have to remove the broken piece. I have had some success drilling a hole into the center of the broken bolt and using an "easyout" which might not be a big problem in this case since it is not likely to be rusted fast.
Many on this and other forums have had good success in removing the remains of broken bolts by using left handed drill bits.

thanks for the response. I checked the holes and found that they were indeed threaded, so with the addition of new lock washers and bolts I think I have fixed the problem. Used the tractor for an hour or so over the weekend and everything seems tight.
