what can cause the mower deck belt on a sun runner to be thrown off repeatedly ?

Either the belt has broken cords or something is out of alignment.

i have a agco allis front cut that the first pulley the belt went around had been replaced with one not as deep, which in turn threw the belt if the deck raised up the least bit while mowing. Replaced the pulley with the correct one and no problem after that. It was a new belt at the time so it did not get damaged after several thrown incidents. Look at your belt close as it does not take much to ruin one nowdays. It will never stay on if it has damage.
