I am running a 190 with 301, twin charger, p-pump, o-ring sleeves, copper head gasket, and filled head. Thinking of moving toward running a dry block and head and using oil as cooling.. what is the best way to accomplish this.. what piston clearance? oiling system upgrades? stock pump with bigger oil pan work? Converted hyd pump used as oil pump? what are your thoughts....what worked and didn't work. Thanks

.016" skirt clearance .....crankshaft driven oil pump......piston cooling jets drilled in the upper main brg saddle like later 301's were... 4 to 6 quarts deeper oil pan with a lowered suction screen....you can run a small hyd pump (4 GPM) for power steering and use engine oil for the fluid and return this oil (filtered)into the main oil galley for extra oil flow.....I know of one puller who uses a 7000 hydraulic pump for engine oil pump and has broken three camshafts....I would not do that. After every run you can still hold your hand against the engine oil pan using 15W-40 oil.

Thank you for your response drallis..what size hole do you drill to make your squirter...do you drill everyone...or which 6 work the best.

Been a while since I've done one, but .0312" (1/32") for sure, but I don't think it was .047" (3/64"). You need to look at a junk block to determine the angle and aiming point. Every main except the rear one. Then, you set up an electric fan to blow air into the block and out thru the back and you'd be surprised how fast you can wisk away the liner heat after a run, and be able to make a re-hook if needed.

In the front yes, but with some extra holes drilled in the block to get air to the front sleeves and out the blocks back wall with two 3/4" holes drilled below the top deck....be careful where you drill.
