I run an '05 3/4 ton, my dad runs an '11 3/4 ton pick up. Today, a co-worker was showing off his new tires on his '11 Ford 3/4 ton van. His van only has 7 lug bolts

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Had one of 'them' show up one day...man I counted the nuts several times, thought I needed new glasses.... dang silly.. course ONE of my '67 Mustangs was 4 bolt, the other 3 were 5 bolts........... Never ever understood WHY Cavaliers were 5 bolt, seems a waste of material and money...

Six cylinder Mustangs and Falcons had 4 bolts, V8's had 5 bolts, probably enough savings in brake parts to cover having two sizes, but still...

When ferx first came out with that, I had a guy working for me,a dang good little tire man, but his hair was a little thin on top. I walked by him and ask him where the eighth lug but was. He looked around for a while and them counted the bolts. He came over to me and made sure I knew the dang thing only had 7 lug bolts on each hub. I knew that, I was just thinking about him the other day. I havn't seen him since he went to work for Firestone. He was a good worker.

Ahhh - but remember back when there were left and right handed lug nuts on vehicles and rims would not interchange like Buick and Olds because Buick had a alignment stud on the drum which other GM didn't have
Now it's offset (depth or rim) that has changed , or like my 73 Olds rims would fit my 65 Olds 442 but the early rims would not fit front of 73 because disc brakes would not fit inside the rim . |

Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

The "7700" refers to 7700 lbs GVWRating versus 6250 lbs load rating on a std F-150. Heavier axles and brakes on the 7700 lb package.

Question: were you looking at the hub cap or the actual wheels? Because Ford has a hub cap that has seven dummy lug nuts on it that they used on 3/4 trucks and vans? |
