I woke up at 5 this morning to do my usual "cow check", and thought maybe I'd just roll back over and go to sleep for a couple hours, and check em later. But then I looked at my phone; One degree out, with a minus 19 wind chill. A new calf wouldn't last long in that. So I promptly leaped out of bed and went and did my check. No new ones, so that was good. We are down to only a dozen or so left to calf, and usually by now we don't have to do any "odd hour" checking. Then we have a 100% chance of snow on Sunday. This is relentless. Oh well, no need to cry about it. The man upstairs is going to give us what he wants us to have, and hopefully for a reason. Guess if it keeps up through April and May, and a whole huge area "preventative plants", then commodity price might see in bump up; maybe a large one. Darrel

I hear about you guys saying how cold it is and I have to check the posting date for your message.  It was close to eighty degrees here yesterday.  It WAS a little cool here early this morning; I thought about putting on a long sleeve shirt.

I hope you guys get through the cold snap okay with all your plumbing, your digits and your livestock intact.  One last chance to play Rook with the neighbors before its time to get down to business.

Withthe dang wind this AM blowing between 30 /40 MPH and even though the sun is out there isn't any heat in it today .
Let the dog out and had to nudge it beyond the door frame and then it ran out and sat along side of a tree in the yard - think it was afraid it was going to blow away.
Hard to believe yesterday was opening day for baseball here - and today the wind chill is down in the MINUS numbers .

well, I would love this weather had we had it back in November, December, January, February... 6-10 or so at night and 30 degrees in the day... and no winds... but APRIL??? To dang cold for this time of year!  at 6am you can drive a dump truck on the bare ground or driveway, at 4pm, your 4 inches in the mud...
Darrel, I gots one in front of the heater right now thats warmed up and dried off and about ready to go back out to the barn and get put on a teat.  Sures no fun with this weather.

Was 64 on Thursday, high of 45 at 12:01am, high of 33 during the day.  22 right now at 10:30 pm. First Rockies ball game today, they lost and played in 24 degree weather.  Saw a post on an AG forum from a guy in ND (not Derrel) saying had 3" of snow on top of 3 feet of frozen ground, moisture wouldn't do any good, just fill the low spots  with water.  Figured he wouldn't be doing field work until May.

Zero degrees this morning, but at least no wind. No baby calves again either, which is all right. Supposed to get up to six inches of snow tomorrow. Guess the machine is alive and well! Darrel

Just below freezing here in South East Kansas...27 degrees, but the sun is trying to come thru the misty clouds. And there is no accumulation of moisture, so ... ... ... ... ...

Better days ahead boys. I'm reading 60's coming up in one week not what I'd like but it will do. Now all I got to do is figure out how to get through the extra 25 feet of water so I can get to the dam and go fishing.

I just looked at the weather map. Snow storm starts right down in Nebraska, at a town called Blair. .....? Isn't that odd. ..? No snow actually at Blair, but on 3 sides of it. Then it heads off to the northwest, goes right through my area, and on up into Montana. If ole Shameless can muster up something like this while he's half laid up, what would we have if he was 100 percent. ..? Darrel
