contrary to what the facebook groups say Ed is right, it was a decal for an advertising campaign.

plus, I'm not so sure that decal wasn't put on by dealers on the smaller tractors. 190XT, 210 and 220's wore that name. There may have been a short time when they did come from West Allis that way though. Just because a brochure has it doesn't mean they actually came that way. Brochures and manuals have lots of pics of prototypes usually. Cool topic!

I've got a pretty extensive collection of advertising literature. The very first One-Eighty literature that was printed was 6 pages and dated 7-1967.  Next literature was 16 pages and dated 5-1968 and remember no gasoline models were even offered at that point.  12-1968 was a 2 page (front and back) info sheet on the new "gasoline" model One-Eighty.  Next literature book included both gas and diesel models and was also 16 pages and dated 6-1969.  Finally in 03-1971 there was a 6 page booklet that called out the One-Eighty "Landhandler" tractor !!  So, that would have occurred at about s/n 180-10,600 and newer. Interestingly, on the same date, the One-Seventy became a Landhandler" too !!  The only thing I saw different was an optional factory cab on the One-Eighty, which hadn't been shown before. All other standard and optional equipment seems to be the same. Remember, the 185 started out in 5-1970, so when the One-Eighty Landhandler version was released, they were making both models at the same time. All of these dates are what is printed on the literature themselves.

Dealers often added the Landhandler decals on unsold 190XT’s when Landhandler was first announced.,hoping it would help move them. That came from a former dealer I know personally. AC recommended doing that.

The first 185 Crop Hustler diesel tractor advertising literature was dated 05-1970. Next book was 10-1973 and were still Crop Hustlers. By 12-1973 the Crop Hustler designation was gone in advertising literature.       The first 175 diesel Crop Hustler literature was also 05-1970 same as 185. Next literature was 03-1971 and still a Crop Hustler. In 07-1973 still Crop Hustler. But, in 02-1974 we now have the gas engine available and Crop Hustler is gone. The Crop Hustler models also included the horizontal racing stripe under the 175 or 185 designation alongside the radiator.

The whole premise of the Crop Hustler series of tractors, was to trade in your old 54 HP One-Seventy or 64 HP One-Eighty for a new 62HP 175 or a 74 HP 185 and not have to trade implements. Pull your old plow/disc faster or maybe a little deeper with the same size chassis and configuration.

I wonder what was the price for a One Seventy and One Eighty or a 175 and 185 when these tractors were new, I know they were produced for several years so with inflation there would be different prices other the years, so pick a year for an example.

In the late 1968/1969 era, I know my Uncle paid $5,400 for his new One-Seventy gasser. Depending upon what options you got, most new iron at that time seemed to be $100 to $110 per PTO HP.   Dad paid $5,000 for his Series 4 in October of 1967.

I thought there was a difference in the tractors, like when they cheapened them up and dropped the four headlight forward down to just two headlights and redesigned the dash and put on a different seat, etc.

We bought anew 190xt series 3 in 72,never had the landhandler sticker. Bought another 190xt series 3 in 2001,it was a 68 year model never had the landhandler decal either. Maybe the australian imports missed out on the decal upgrade😀
