I have an uninsulated 40Xpole barn. A barn cat (refuses to be domesticated and getting old) dwells in there. It is getting to 100/100+ even with two fans (one in and one out) running. I have the cat in the house in a kennel for the ongoing heat wave. Anyhoo you mentioned snuggling up to a swamp cooler. You think with one of the portable ones in there it would generate some cool air floor along the cement floor? Worthwhile for ole Midnight? I would be interested in your thoughts and anyone else on this issue. I just have not sprung since worthless investments just pizz me off. Maybe on needy occasions I could have that thing blowing on my big bottom.

Hey Dave,,it good to hear from you,,it's been a long time and time does fly by so fast anymore,,, Yes,, I cabbaged on to this good sized swamp cooler (uses 36" pads) some years back,,think I gave $20 for it with a good 1/4 horse motor. One of the pillow block bearings on squirell cage had started to freeze up but after some oilin,,it freed up good. I made a frame work out of old 1 1/2" bed rails I picked up at the City dump and added 4 small caster wheels at the corners so I can roll it around in garage and carport, should work good on your concrete floor. Not sure what the CFM is but I can feel the cool air from bout 20 feet away even in this hot dry country,,,,I have to re-fill with water bout every 2 hours in this heat but that ain't no biggie. Your Kitty-cat should love one of these,,,and,,,,and,,,you will too,,,!!! ![]() |

If it's not hot and "DRY", the last thing you want is a swamp cooler.
And if you use it inside, any metal around will start to rust. |

They work best in low humidity but even in this sweltering GA heat they help. Never used a portable unit but worked on a lot of roof mounted ones.
