Been working on a D17 for a neighbor of my dads the last few days on some power steering leaks. Is 1200 PSI out of the steering pump dead headed into the gauge good enough? It has a belt driven pump.
On that subject, why did they use a belt driven pump on some and the gear driven pump on the governor housing on others? That pump on the governor housing seems like a way better deal. Seems like all that you see available aftermarket is that belt driven pump now. |

I think 1600 psi is what they are. 1200 should work, but might be a little weak.
The reason they went to a belt drive pump was because they wore out the key ways on shaft then timing jumped around every place. MACK |

I see. makes sense on the timing issue. PS does seem weak when tractor is setting still but seems better when moving. Not sure if he want it fixed or will just live with it the way it is. He has another D17 with a loader. I got to thinking I might see if he wants to swap the pump off of it and try it on this tractor if its the same belt driven.
This D17 I been working on, the pump looks like the Webster version they show in the online parts catalog. All the aftermarket suppliers online dont have a good picture of that 70240066 pump on their website. My fear is get that new pump and have to remake all the mounting brackets. |

Yep, all in fun. We got mostly IH tractors that we farm with. Got some Johnny poppers too. I actually dont own any AC tractors but work on them for others occasionally. I do have a Glenco soil finisher though. Not much AGCO in our neck of the woods now days. Dealers are too far away I think is the biggest reason. Im 3 miles from IH dealer and 25 miles either way for John Deere.
