Mike,
I was wondering the same thing as BEK. Its a lot of work to get one of these ready for paint.
I have used most of the standard methods. But I did buy a new tool a air powered needle scaler. Have not tried it yet? Anyone use those to remove paint and rust? I was thinking it might just beat the the old paint /rust into the steel? Was going to try it on some of the casting.
BTW Mike your detailing really looks great. I dont see any over spray on hoses or things like that. Looks factory fresh!
Regards,
 Chris

Thanks I really appreciate it. The farms and families around us are fortunately pretty close and we’ll liked and so if one of us needs help,if it’s working on broke equipment or helping getting crops in we try to help because you never know it may be one day that we need help and for as long as I can remember it’s always been that way. And I’m sure it’s like that all across farmland USA. I’ve got very close friends that farm outside Jackson OH and they tell me the same thing with farms helping each other out there too.But I guess there’s the cases of Hatfield & McCoys out there too😂

Yes sir,dad uses air grinder with brushes and the needle hammer on a lot of stuff, especially the small parts but my neighbors big diesel steam jet is what we used on the tractor.Took it down to the original primer, and most of that blew off but we needled or brushed the rest. And what lines I didn’t replaced I taped off. That’s one of my peeves is to see the rubber on lines sprayed over.
Chris also with the needles,it’s not near as dusty as a brushing and grinding away old paint and primer.

Also ,on a fun note. I used stainless hardware ,bolts, nuts and washers on all the exposed locations ie fenders, side panels nose cone, grill etc. all bought from Lowe’s on a couple of trips. So as a public service should anyone decide to use stainless or any other for that matter and buy their bolts from Lowe’s or HD you may wanna do self checkout as cashiers get really flustered when you walk up with a couple pounds of bolts and washers that need sorted and scanned.

These are the needle scalers that dad uses. The big one is loud and obnoxious but it chews up everything it hits.
