Wanted to salvage these old D17 fenders and figured I would use some good old farm boy ingenuity. Now these would not pass for restoration quality but they sure turned out better than I though they would.

Above is our families 1st and original Allis Chalmers farm tractor. It is still mechanically sound and used often. Kept inside of our open sided shed its entire life. Out of direct sun and elements but the moisture has taken its toll on the tin work. More especially the fenders. Above is my farm boy repair using 3/4 plywood. Like I mentioned above its not restoration quality but practical and strong. If I knew how strong it was going to be and how cool it was gonna look I would have taken a little more time on the metal prep. In any case these fenders were headed for the scrap pile before I decided this venture. I have about 6 hours of labor in this repair and $35 in materials if bought new. I had everything on hand in my shop. :-)

If your tractor was at a show, folks would stop and do a double take as they walk by it. The top picture really shows off the new extra body line. Great fix.

Where did you find those bolt-on ball swivels for the upper ends of the lift arms?

I could us a couple of those.

This is a 1960 tractor. It has 3950 hours on it. Original tach, water temp and traction boost gauge that all work!!! Original clutch and rear tires too. AMAZING.
It was our main baler and plowing tractor until we leased out the farm fields back in the late 90's so it has seen its share of hard work.
It was retired into pasture brush hog work and food plot plowing since then. It was on our farm for over 40 years and I just delivered it 1000 miles to my Nephew in Florida. We were always taught to grease and change the oil regularly. So I gave it to him with confidence. I did run it thru my shop for service and found the valve lash perfect and the inside of the valve compartment looking like a fresh overhaul even though this engine or head has NEVER been rebuilt. A testament to frequent oil changes and service.
Dad made sure I knew about that. He would be glad it is staying in the family.

Those "bolt on" swivels are exactly like the ones on my D-17. They came with the after-market 3Pt. adapter kit I bought years ago. Mfg. by Speeco? I believe.

Good idea. Could also do same thing but use !/4" lexan or plexiglass sheet. Or 1/8 or thinner steel sheet and spot weld.
