Great weekend at the Connecticut Audubon Christmas tree farm.   We have a joint venture with them.  They provide the land.  We plant, mow, spray, prune, spray, staff the sales, and they get a cut of the profits.

We grow white and blue spruce and douglas fir and bring in fraiser and balsam firs.  We cannot grow them because the deer eat them and the town of Westport has a no hunting in the town ordinance that restricts us from "protecting" trees.

I know that the tractor isn't orange but at least I'm wearing my Allis hat and it's not a green machine!

Your late if you only started today.Wink My wonderful wife has this thing,no big deal about black Friday shopping but you need to get that tree in the house that day and it stays until New Years day.The kids(3 all in there 30's) have all got the same idea and they want to cut there own too.

The cut your own tree places have gone away only a few left in the county. The closer one didn't open until Sat. So they drove a extra 40 miles to cut there trees Friday and cut  one for mom who has the flue and didn't go anywhere this year.

How is the business in your part of the world? There were a lot here for the population, and then the pink canker beetle started killing the Monterrey pine big time. The Monterrey pine grew fast even in the areas to hot for them if they are watered well. Hope you have a good season.

We actually opened yesterday.  First day for us is always the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Business is good.  We are only an hour and a half from  NY City so we get a lot of people looking for the country experience.  City folks are pretty good tippers.

we have several tree farms here, and one is so big and does such a huge business they hafta have the sheriff's dept direct traffic on and off the highway for them, plus the state puts up them message signs to caution drivers. we went there once and the cheapest tree we could find that had any size to it was $75. and the prices went up from there! whew! then netting was extra $7. and they would mount it and tie it down on your vehicle for another $3.

I got tired of driving the blue/grey/rust tractor so I put the B to work today at the tree farm. I used the carryall to haul our pre-cut frasier and balsam firs to the front.  Not as convenient as a loader with forks but more enjoyable being on my B.  A great days work for a 63 year old. The TRACTOR not me!!!

I wanted to bring my WD but as I was getting it ready the night before, the radiator let loose.  Guess what I will be doing over the Christmas break...

WOW!!  We get about $175.00 for a 14 footer.  I thought that was high since our farm is in the gold coast of Connecticut.  Isn't the free market system great?  Maybe I shouldn't ask that in this forum...

Thanks.  They make a difference since the aftermarket 3-point carries the load so far back.

I thought I got the bracket from www.heavyhitch.com but I don't see it on their site anymore.  It fits into a 2-inch receiver.

The weights are 10 pounds each and the bracket fits 10.  I got them on ebay (Unibuilthttp://r.ebay.com/xDflG5).  Reasonable price at $17.00 each and flat rate USPS shipping.  Mailman hated me when the 50 pound boxes came.
