    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 at 12:38pm
Yesterday last patient of the day as I am a experiment hopefully NOT in futility as to damaged eye repairs. Laser was used instead of a cutting tool to remove a lens cover/access patch then the same laser used to cut the lens into small enough pieces to be readily removed thru smaller incisions as a conventional surgery. Replacement lens Implant was in at less then 22 minutes entire operation. Went to eye doc this morning all appears normal so far, a little excess clouding of the cornea due to my damage level but not unexpected, should see the clouding decrease three to five days and second followup visit on the 28th.

three (gawd!) decades ago, my Grandmother had cataract surgery done... this was before lasers, of course.

Man... she was PISST OFF... Whew...

When they took the patches off, she was LIVID...

My first cataract removal was 16 years ago and that eye is still great.  Had an astigmatism in that eye also and  while I was lying there the doc says, we'll just fix that while I'm in here.  Real pretty light show that was and worked too.  The other eye was done 6 years later and they have had to laser the fog off it twice since.  I was absolutely amazed at the color white, I didn't realize how dingy looking it had gotten until I could see clearly again.
Glad all went well, it's scary when they are messing with your eye sight.  Now if they could do the same for my ears, however it's probably best I don't hear everything that's said around my house.LOL

Back when wife had it done had to be in a hospital as her heart condtion was a worry - everything went great - she should have had it done sooner as a couple years with real loss of vision sure made things hard for her to do .
Only thing I can say to anyone is don't wait until it  gets worse - do it and enjoy life -
Seems it was a little over 2 years before she passed and I keep thinking of all she missed in the 5 years with the cataracs clouding her vision

Yes because the worst part was sleeping with eye cover on for 7 days. I had both eyes done last year and it sure is nice to see better.

First off I’m sending prayers for a quality and quick recovery.
Please keep me posted on your progress.
Several years back I got a piece of steel in my good eye. They had to drill seven times to get it. I’ve had to quit driving at night. Last year I got glasses and he told my wife that the damage would always be a problem at night and glasses wouldn’t help. I’m just curious if something like this might help.

If you want a second opinion, here is a good ophthalmologist, but he is in Phila. Pa. You would need medical records or maby an examination because of the damage. He developed the procedure in 1991 in the previous video in this post and the doctor in Brazil is trying to improve on it. This is his website,   James Lewis,

My wife has always had really bad vision... bad enough that... if she doesn't have glasses or contacts in, she bumps into, and trips over EVERYTHING.

She has totally dismissed having any correction done, and frankly, I can't blame her...

If she EVER gets her vision corrected, she'll kick my ugly A$$ out... LOL

Good luck DMiller! I had my left eye cataract taken out 3 days ago and am not seeing very well yet. I had good 20/20 corrected before the surgery. How many days till y'all think I will be back to near 20/20? I know everyone's different, but I am grounded and do not like this. Doc looked today and said it looked good. But on the chart my left sees almost like double vision. Anyone had this? Again, good luck DMiller and all. Dana

Dave, glad everything went well and praying that there is continued improvement. My wife goes for surgery on one eye on April 10th and the other on May 1st. Guess I will have to stick around the house and be a good husband for a few weeks.

Captain Dana, praying that you will be back to 20/20 corrected and back at the controls soon. Back in the 90's when crewing Hueys I flew a lot with a veteran 'Nam pilot who used 3 pair of glasses at night, one to see outside, one to read the instruments, and one to read the map. He could fly a Huey better that the young pilots with excellent vision could. He save our arses one day when one of the youngsters almost put us in a river.

Captin Dana, my eyes were slow to react but they said it was because they were blue, blue eyes reaction to the drugs can be very dramatic.  When I went back two days later it was still really dilated from the medicine from the surgery so they couldn't do the test.  They put some drops in my eye to reduce the dilation and then for the next two days the pupil was about the size of a end of a ball point pen.  I couldn't see much for several days but all is well now.

Mine will not ever hit 20/20 but will be better than once was. The vision recovery takes a few days as the swelling of the cornea and surrounding tissue recover. I have noticed incremental changes with each passing day where today can see and read the text I am posting I could not yesterday. Still not clear but visible.

Landlord, neighbor, friend lost a eye as a teen.Gave up driving at about 70 cause he could not see much. Finally had cataract removed at 80.Waited cause he didn't want to loose what little sight he had. Then his son started catching Censored for all kinds of things the old man had not seen, and lived to 92. Had lots of advice Wink for all of us about how we should do things,LOL some days I really miss him.

Captain Dana praying for full recovery of vision for you after my cataract surgery the last test the surgeon did I was seeing 20/25 I didn't have the extra lens put in cause I knew I would need glass to read and I didn't want to carry reading glasses after 50 years of cleaning  my glass and all the stuff that went on them and not in my eyes I decided I was going to stay with glasses

tadams you bring up a good piont about wearing glasses. I have had glasses since I was 13 years old, and they have been a real annoying Angry thing  sometimes Wink. But some times when I see all the pits and scratches,  dang good thing I had them on and kept that Censored out of my eyes.

Dmiller, seems like the only downside to your operation is that you might see some more wrinkles on your old lady, er loving wife, that you didn't see before and then there is that first time you look in the mirror and wonder who that old guy looking back is! lol
Glad things are looking good for you.
