 Topic: CA Coasting Transmission/Transaxle Noise

I've noticed a slight increase in clanging noises from the transmission/transaxle when coasting. Seems like there is extra play (or more than I remember) in 3rd gear. Should I be worried? I'm referring to when the engine applies force versus when the coasting exceeds the gear speed. When pulling I don't notice any issues or after the clange ends when coasting I don't notice any issues (it is literally a clange).

two of my Bs do that... I think its slop/ backlash in the final drive bull gear.. You hear it when roading and going down hill, when the engine is not loading the gears.

jack up the tractor so your 2 inches off the ground on one tire. leave the tractor in gear.... push IN and OUt on the tire and see that you dont have any bearing slop on the bull shaft ... rotate the tire forward and back and see how much BACKLASH you have in the gears..

My Model C that I call 'Little Alice' was whining while coasting downhill, upon checking the finals for slop there is excess play in the right hand bull gear bearing, so it is out of service until I can get to it (maybe this winter).
